Requested Action:

Recommendation

It is requested that the Board of County Commissioners: (1) waive Policy BCC-58, Naming of County Facilities; and (2) rename the park known as “Coconut Point Park” to “Val M. Steele Park.” Each action requires a majority vote of the Board.

Summary Explanation and Background:

Commissioner Val Steele served as the District 3 Commissioner from 1970-1984. Commissioner Steele was a highly effective leader and his service to Brevard County will always be remembered. The re-naming of Coconut Point Park at 3535 S. Highway A1A, Melbourne Beach, FL 32951 to Val M. Steele Park will celebrate his contributions to the community.
