Recommendation
Request the Board consider and approve $2 million from the Public Safety Fund for County staff to expand the current vaccination program; provide capability to distribute an additional 1000 vaccination shots per day in addition to the current Florida Department of Health capacity of up to 700 vaccination shots per day; and for the program to last up to 6 months from the start date. It is also requested the Board waive procurement policy in obtaining this contracted service in an effort to have contract execution begin as quickly as possible. County Purchasing is currently reaching out to known vendors who have the capability to provide this service to Brevard County. Staff will bring back for Board approval contract(s) that have been identified to meet County requirements and timelines. The requested Board action would authorize Public Safety Funds be used for anticipated staffing as well as logistical and site requirements.

Summary Explanation and Background:
Currently the Florida Department of Health, in Brevard County, is providing vaccinations to those over 65 years of age. This action allocates funds and directs staff to expand the vaccination program in Brevard to meet the state's goal of "shots in arms" as quickly as possible. This program will target the same age risk population until state guidance changes to expand vaccination eligible populations. Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) is encouraging counties build systems to increase vaccination distribution capacity.
