Summary Explanation and Background:

The Brevard Homeless Coalition requests that the Board of County Commissioners recognize December 21, 2020, as National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day.  Memorial Services will be held in Brevard County to recognize those who were homeless and have died during the past year.

Each year, advocates for and friends of homeless people throughout the nation join the National Coalition for the Homeless in observing Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day in recognition of the homeless men, women and children whose final residence was the streets or a shelter.  In many cases, homelessness caused or hastened the deaths of these individuals.  Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day is officially observed December 21st, the first day of winter and the longest night of the year.  In Brevard County, we will be memorializing 43 homeless individuals that died during the past year.

The observances in Brevard County will be held Monday, December 21, 2020 at Daily Bread - 815 E Fee Ave, Melbourne, FL 32901 at 1:30 pm and at Sand Point Park - 101 N Washington Ave Titusville, FL 32796 at 5:00 pm.

Resolution to be accepted by members of the Brevard Homeless Coalition.
