Summary Explanation and Background:

Kiwanis Island Park, located at 951 Kiwanis Island Park Road on Merritt Island, is an 18.38-acre community river park situated in a wildlife sanctuary. The Park offers both passive and active recreational opportunities including a boat ramp with access to Sykes Creek leading to the Barge Canal or Banana River.  Park amenities also include athletic fields and courts and the community center which houses the gymnasium.

The existing gymnasium floor is aged and has dead spots throughout. In order to bring the gymnasium back to satisfactory game playing conditions, the Parks and Recreation Department recommends removal of the existing floor surface and underlayment (~6,128 square feet) and the installation of a new Mondo Advance New Generation 8 mm resilient surface over Everlay fiberglass-reinforced underlayment. The new gymnasium floor will provide an upgraded surface with updated game lines for new sports and activities.

The Parks and Recreation Department will utilize a Construction Manager contract with Core Construction Services of Florida, LLC to perform the gymnasium floor replacement. The guaranteed maximum price of $153,210 and requires the Chair to execute the contract. The Construction Manager contract has been reviewed and approved by both the County Attorney’s Office and Risk Management.

Clerk to the Board Instructions:

Upon execution of the contract, please call Melissa at 321-350-9125 to arrange for transmittal.
