Summary Explanation and Background:

It has come to Commissioner Lober’s attention that multiple County departments, offices, employees, and/or elected officials may have bulk-mailed holiday cards purchased with County funds with printing and postage also paid for with County funds.

While the thought behind a personalized card is appreciated and while it is not Commissioner Lober’s intention to be thought of as the Greeting Card Grinch, we must remain ever mindful that County funds should only be spent with due care and discretion.

Moreover, when such cards originate from elected officials, some may understandably view this in a similar light to the now notorious Nikki Fried gas pump stickers.

A waiver of this requirement must be obtained by majority vote of the Board of County Commissioners and such waivers will be granted only in extenuating circumstances.
