It is requested that the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners Proclaim May 2021 as “Older Americans Month”.

Summary Explanation and Background:

Each year, the month of May is proclaimed Older Americans Month throughout the nation.  The Administration on Aging (an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services) develops a theme for Older Americans Month, disseminates the theme to the entire aging network, and each year the President signs a proclamation regarding Older Americans Month in celebration of the achievements and contributions of the nation’s older persons.

The Brevard Commission on Aging (BCOA) seeks to recognize May as Older Americans Month and observe this year’s theme which is “Communities of Strength”.  The BCOA members recognize that older adults play a key role in the vitality of every community, and during the March 11, 2021 Brevard Commission on Aging meeting, a motion was brought forth and unanimously approved, to recognize May 2021 as Older Americans Month, and highlight Brevard County resident Charlie Buchanan as an example of the strength of older adults in our community. Mr. Charlie Buchanan will accept the resolution.
