Recommendation

It is requested that the Board of County Commissioners rescind Board Policy BCC-10, “Tool Reimbursement Policy.”

End

Summary Explanation and Background:

The Board of County Commissioners approved the current version of Board Policy BCC-10, Tool Reimbursement Policy,” on August 21, 2012.  This Policy is outdated and will be replaced with an Administrative Order.  As in Board Policy BCC-10, the Administrative Order (AO) is intended for County employees who upgrade and augment the quantity and quality of their personally owned tools, with the understanding that this enables the employee to be more efficient in his/her service to the County.  The AO will require less administrative work by providing for an annual reimbursement rate rather than a monthly rate.  The AO will also increase the allowance by the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) from October 1, 2012, to October 1, 2026, and will be adjusted annually each October 1st by the same index.   By indexing the tool reimbursement annually, the County employee will be able to keep up with inflation.
