Requested Action:
Recommendation
It is requested that the Board of County Commissioners approve the mutual aid agreement between National Aeronautics and Space Administration, John F. Kennedy Space Center (NASA-KSC), and Brevard County for fire protection. It is further requested the County Manager or designee be authorized to approve any subsequent amendments, renewals or other required administrative actions.

Summary Explanation and Background:
Brevard County and NASA-KSC each operate and maintain established fire departments, including firefighting and emergency medical equipment, and employ qualified firefighting personnel. Given that the territorial boundaries of Brevard County and NASA-KSC are contiguous, the parties acknowledge and agree that this Agreement serves a mutual benefit by providing for assistance in the event of an emergency or disaster of such magnitude that it cannot be adequately addressed by either party acting alone.
This mutual aid agreement contains no substantive changes from the prior agreements between the parties, which have remained in full force and effect in substantially the same in previous years.
Neither Brevard County nor NASA-KSC shall be entitled to receive compensation from, nor reimbursement by, the other party for any costs, expenses, or liabilities incurred in connection with the services provided pursuant to this Agreement.
Purchasing, Risk Management, and the County Attorney’s Office have all coordinated on this action.
