Summary Explanation and Background:
FEMA provides grant funding to protect the health and safety of the public. Fire Rescue submitted and was awarded the FPS grant to purchase 1,000 regular smoke alarms, 20 smoke alarms for hearing impaired, and 250 carbon monoxide alarms and then distribute to the citizens of Brevard County. The alarms have a 10-year sealed battery and are compliant with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards for residential installation.
In conjunction with community partners, Fire Rescue Fire Prevention will distribute these new alarms to disabled, elderly, low income families and any other Brevard County citizen in need. The project has a 2-year performance period. The project will target areas comprised of lower income families with children, disabled citizens and households with older adults that are not capable of acquiring, installing and maintaining smoke alarm units.
