Summary Explanation and Background:

The Florida 4-H Public Speaking Program, powered by FPL, helps 4th through 6th-grade students research, write, and deliver a 2 to 3-minute speech on a topic of their choice. Students can participate in classroom, school, and county-level competitions while practicing their research, writing, and communication skills.

In the 2023-24 school year, Brevard County had 6 schools participating in the public speaking program, including 37 classrooms and 728 students.  The top two speakers in the county were chosen April 23rd at the County Public Speaking Finals.  Those students are:

4th /5th Grade Division: Shelby Windsor, R.L. Stevenson Elementary School, "Why Mermaids Are Real."

6th Grade Division: Isabelle Parsons, R.L Stevenson Elementary School, "Why Florida Teachers Deserve a Better Salary."

Elizabeth Shephard, Director of UF/IFAS Extension Services Brevard County, will be introducing these two county-level winners who will be presenting at this meeting.
