Summary Explanation and Background:

The Veteran Memorial Cemetery was founded in 1978 on Day Street in Titusville, Florida following the dedication of the land from the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners.  Until the opening of the Cape Canaveral National Veteran Cemetery in 2016 it was the final resting place of Veterans from Brevard County.

Beginning in 2016, a group of dedicated individuals (Al Therriault, Sam DiBlasio, Robert Patry, Tom Stewart, John Famiglietti) founded the “Friends of the Cemetery” to address the condition of the cemetery.  Since then, the group has grown to more than 250 volunteers and partnerships with more than a dozen organizations helping to beautify, maintain, and most importantly honor our veterans.  A plaque commemorating the group will be placed at the entry to the cemetery and contain the following:

This commemoration is dedicated to the Friends of the Cemetery members Al Therriault, Sam DiBlasio, Robert Patry, Tom Stewart, John Famiglietti, and all the volunteers who came alongside these men. Whose dedication and commitment to the Veterans interred here honors them, their service to our Country, and the freedom we continue to cherish.

One of the founding members, Al Therriault, has requested to be interred at the cemetery he has worked so hard to improve.  As a condition of his interment at the Veteran Memorial Cemetery all costs will be borne by his estate.
