Summary Explanation and Background:
Pursuant to the Brevard County Charter and Code of Ordinances, it is asked that the Board of County Commissioners confirm the appointment of Ian Golden as the Parks and Recreation Department Director, effective January 4th, 2025. Mr. Golden has been assigned to Parks and Recreation shadowing and supporting Mary Ellen Donner since October 28, 2024. Prior to this, Mr. Golden served as the Brevard County Housing and Human Services Director since 2010.
Throughout his 23 years of service in the Housing and Human Services Department, Mr. Golden has been responsible for administering many Federal and State grants, including specific Emergency Rental Assistance programs. In collaboration with the Board of County Commissioners and municipalities, he handled the acceptance, start-up, and direction of the Opioid settlement with the State of Florida. Mr. Golden has also provided oversight to the Veteran’s Services Office and other programs such as housing assistance, housing rehabilitation, and emergency utility assistance. In addition to Departmental duties, Mr. Golden represents the County with numerous human services and not-for-profit organizations and serves on several boards.
Mr. Golden’s years of service with Brevard County have been marked by his exceptional leadership in construction, procurement, financial management, and youth services. Prior to his appointment as the Housing and Human Services Director, Mr. Golden was instrumental in youth development as the Home Manager at the County-operated Country Acres Children’s Home, serving youth in the county's custody. His previous work at Circles of Care and Devereaux Children’s Hospital further underscores his leadership experience in youth development.
Mr. Golden's qualifications are extensive. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Florida Tech. Additionally, he is a Brevard County Executive Leadership Institute graduate, further demonstrating his commitment to professional development and leadership.
Mr. Golden's commitment to service and infrastructure investment is unwavering. The experience Mr. Golden gained as Director of Housing and Human Services, combined with his private expertise, has proven beneficial and prepared him to successfully take on his new role.
