Summary Explanation and Background:
A native of South Florida, Jim Stables graduated from Fort Pierce Central High School, where he excelled as a multi-sport athlete. Although he initially planned to pursue collegiate academics and athletics, injuries redirected his path toward a career in public service through the fire service. He previously served with Brevard County Fire Rescue from 1992-2001, as a Captain and District Chief, providing duties such as Advanced Life Support (ALS), fire suppression, hazardous materials response, and special operations services. Jim has been married to his wife, Heather, for 23 years. Together they have two children, Coy and Addison, and four grandchildren. Reflecting on his career in the fire service, Jim often says: “When you find a job you love, you never work a day in your life.”
Highlights of Jim’s multi-level leadership experience include:
• Town Manager of Mount Carmel, Tennessee
• Interim City Manager, Boynton Beach, Florida
• Fire Chief, Boynton Beach, Florida
• Fire Chief, Johnson City, Tennessee
• Fire Chief, Palm Bay, Florida
• Fire Chief, Ormond Beach, Florida
Education and Certifications:
• Barry University, Public Administration
• Eastern Florida State College, Law Enforcement Certification
• Florida State University, Level 2 Certified Public Manager Program
Jim Stables was selected from a pool of 20 applicants and 3 finalists after undergoing interviews with representatives from the Public Safety Department and with the County Manager and Assistant County Managers. In addition to the interview process, Mr. Stables also participated in a meet-and-greet with personnel from Brevard County Fire Rescue Department.
I am pleased to bring Jim’s name forward for confirmation and am confident he will serve Brevard County well as our next Fire Chief.
