Summary Explanation and Background:
The subject property is located in Section 22, Township 27 South, Range 36 East, west of Interstate 95, and on the north side of West Eau Gallie Boulevard in Melbourne.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is seeking to re-acquire the Florida Department of Transportation parcel, known as tax account number 2735156, located at 5110 West Eau Gallie Boulevard, Parking Lot, in Melbourne. The Department is planning to construct a new Animal Shelter to replace the current shelter located at 5100 West Eau Gallie Boulevard, Melbourne.
The current parking lot managed by the Florida Department of Transportation is being underutilized with the majority of cars parked there belonging to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office staff. After weeks of monitoring, approximately 12 cars used the location for Park and Ride. An agreement was reached with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Transportation for the property so the existing animal shelter can stay in operation while the new shelter is built. The Florida Department of Transportation parcel is an optimal location as it is adjacent to the newly built Animal Hospital. Once construction is complete, the public will be permitted to park at the existing shelter location for Park and Ride.
The Florida Department of Transportation has constructed or improved State Road No. 9, Section 70220, F.P. No. 405506-3 in Brevard County and finds that the parcel known as tax account number 2735156 is no longer needed for Florida Department of Transportation purposes. The attached Quit-Claim Deed will convey that certain parcel, currently owned by Florida Department of Transportation, to Brevard County.
The User Department approves this request.
This acquisition follows the policies and procedures as set forth in Administrative Order 37.
