and Joyce, too many to name; one thing that she can promise is she is the same person today
that she has been for many years, fighting for what is right and she will not stop; with the new
Board, it will have a different tone; the public trust is something she holds near and dear to her
heart; if there is anything to celebrate, anyone needs help, she will be there; she is very excited
to get to work; she wanted to give a shout out to the firefighters and thanked them all for
everything they do on a daily basis for the community; she will be fighting for them; and she
thanked her supporters and the new Board.
F.5. Kim Adkinson, Commissioner District 3
Commissioner Adkinson stated she wrote her speech so she would not get emotional; she
expressed her appreciation to everyone for being there; she is grateful for the incredible
privilege to serve as the next District 3 Commissioner, and she thanked all her family and
friends there for supporting her; she mentioned how they walked in ridiculously hot weather,
knocked on doors in the rain, put their own reputations on the line, and she will make them
proud; and she owed them all a serious debt of gratitude. She stated she is there to be a
Commissioner to all of Brevard County; her promise is that she would listen and work for all
residents, and she intends to do that; she hopes that as a Board they would find common
ground and work together to address the challenges as they arise; each Commissioner has his
or her own vision for Brevard’s future based on each individual life experiences, that they are
neighbors and have to listen to each other; and during her campaign she listened to many
unique stories of people in District 3, such as neighborhood leaders who asked her to help
address concerns from traffic to environment and public safety, small business owners that
wanted to be a part of the thriving Brevard County, however, felt that they possibly could not
afford to keep their doors open, young people who were excited to carve out their place in
Brevard County, and lifelong residents who work hard every day but are not confident that they
will not be able to live here as Brevard County grows. She stated sometimes the narratives they
have complement each other and sometimes they do not; however, better decisions are made
when respect is shown for all perspectives; she is grateful to be joined in the effort with new
Commissioners and returning Commissioners; each Commissioner offers a unique perspective,
one that is going to make conversations more comprehensive and she thinks decisions will be
better; when there are disagreements, and there will be, she hopes he or she remember
diversity of opinion reflects diversity of Brevard residents; and she suggests each
Commissioner would govern with respect for each other while remembering the shared goal is
to help the people thrive in Brevard County. She continued by saying their job is to listen and
lead, that the journey ahead is not always going to be easy or quick but will take everyone
working and living side-by-side to get through this; she is there to be a County Commissioner
for all of the residents of District’s 1 thru 5; and she thanked everyone for the opportunity.
F.7. Thad Altman, Commissioner District 5
Commissioner Altman stated it is an incredible honor to be there and he is deeply grateful for
the trust that the people of Brevard have given to him; he recognized his wife and her support
in the process knowing he would not be there without it; he called out Sue Schmidt, who he
previously served with, it was an honor to see her; and also Pam Barrett who is with his staff.
He stated each Commissioner lives in a very special place, in a community like Brevard
County; it has a role that is much bigger than itself; what the Commissioners and all the
professional staff does is really keep the County running, which is bigger than he or she; there
is a role that expands beyond the State, country, even the universe; it is a very sacred role he
or she has to be a part of the community that is leading mankind to the stars; it is a great
honor; and he is excited and looking forward to stepping up and working with the
Commissioners to do what needs to be done and meet the challenges he or she has.
F.6. Rob Feltner, Commissioner District 4
Chair Feltner stated the next Board Meeting will be December 3, 2024, which everyone is
looking forward to; he encouraged the Commissioners to participate in briefing with the staff in
preparation; his expectations on how the future meetings will be handled, respectfully with two
