Summary Explanation and Background:

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) awarded Brevard County a grant for rain barrel workshops in November 2022. The grant requires conducting approximately 15 rain barrel workshops throughout the County before July 30, 2024. Outreach events raise awareness and encourage the participation of local residents in reducing and treating stormwater runoff. Rain barrel workshops are credited towards the County’s compliance with National Pollutant Discharge and Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements.

The proposed workshops will complement other existing outreach efforts.  Stormwater Program funds are budgeted for outreach in FY23, proposed for FY24, and will be utilized as match for this grant.

The total estimated cost of the workshops is $70,000.00 with 50/50 matching contributions from the County ($35,000) and FDEP ($35,000).

Clerk to the Board Instructions:

Execute three original agreements and return to the Brevard County Natural Resources Management Department.
