Summary Explanation and Background:

Grant funding of $1,500,000 has been awarded to Brevard County Natural Resources from fiscal year 2021-2022 Legislative Appropriations - Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for the Sykes Creek Zone R Septic to Sewer conversion project.

The Indian River Lagoon has been impacted for many years from leaching septic drain fields. The Sykes Creek Zone R Septic-to-Sewer project removes septic systems on a portion of Merritt Island and permanently connects them to sewer service. The conversion of 192 properties from septic to sewer supports the Banana River Lagoon and North Indian River Lagoon TMDL/BMAPs that require nitrogen load reductions.  The project is estimated to reduce total nitrogen loading per year by at least 2,925 pounds.

Clerk to the Board Instructions:

Please execute 2 copies of the grant agreement, one copy for the Clerk’s office and one to be returned to Natural Resources for sending to the grant agency.
