Board consideration and approval of motions(s) to direct staff to draft documents consolidating the current number of County library boards from seven (7) down to three (3) (one located in the North, one representative of Central and South Brevard to be conveniently located, and the already existing Brevard County Library System Advisory Board). The documents carrying out this course of action, once completed, will be brought back to this Board for a final vote.

Summary Explanation and Background:

At the February 22, 2022 regular meeting, a discussion ensued as a result of the proposal to consolidate the seven (7) County library boards (Brevard County Library System Advisory Board, Mims/Scottsmoor Public Library Advisory Board, Port St. John Public Library Advisory Board, South Mainland Public Library Advisory Board, Suntree/Viera Public Library Advisory Board, Catherine Schweinsberg Rood Central Library Advisory Board, and West Melbourne Public Library Board). Based on the suggestions made, the proposal has been amended to reduce the seven (7) boards down to three (3), which will keep the Brevard County Library System Advisory Board as-is, and allow for a board in the North, and another that would representative of Central and South part of the County. Additionally, certain guidelines will be proposed to keep costs down, while maximizing efficiency and value.
In addition to consolidating County boards, it was also proposed to withdraw from participating in the six (6) city library boards, which would save the County $5,000 annually, as well as staff time.
