It is requested that the Board of County Commissioners consider and act on a request from Mr. Steven Powers, Owner and Operator of the Caf?s located at the Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Justice Center and Brevard County Government Center-Viera. Mr. Powers is requesting a temporary reduction from $1,200 down to $600 in rent payments through December 31, 2021.

Summary Explanation and Background:
On February 22, 2021 the Board of County Commissioners approved assignment of the Complex Caf? Lease at the Brevard County Government Center - Viera and Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Justice Center to Powers 1022, Inc. d/b/a Complex Caf?. The assignment of lease was negotiated and agreed upon with very specific terms. Those terms included forbearance of rental payments from Powers 1022, Inc. until June 30, 2021. On July 01, 2021 monthly rental payments would begin at $1,200 per month unless it is reduced.

Mr. Powers states that he has faced continued challenges, specifically COVID 19, and he is making efforts to improve the quality of food and food choices. He is requesting a temporary rent reduction, specifically that he be authorized to make half the normal monthly rental payments, foregoing the $1,200 monthly payment with a $600 monthly payment. These reduced payments would be limited for the time period of July 01, 2021 through December 31, 2021.

This matter was originally scheduled for Board consideration on July 6, 2021. Mr. Powers was not in attendance at the Board meeting on July 6 due to a scheduling conflict. Mr. Powers did make a full rent payment for the month of July while this matter w...
