Summary Explanation and Background:
Community Based Care of Brevard, Inc. d/b/a Brevard Family Partnership (BFP) was established in 2003 as a non-profit organization in response to a Legislative mandate to privatize foster care and related services (Section 409.1617, Florida Statutes). It was subsequently awarded the contract, through the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), to manage Brevard County's child welfare system. BFP and its community partners provide child abuse prevention, foster care and support, adoption, independent living and community outreach services to the children and families of Brevard County.
BFP was envisioned, designed, and implemented by stakeholders in Brevard County through a partnership between Brevard County government, Devereux, and Children's Home Society. Initially, all three founding agencies provided appointments to the BFP Board of Directors. The Florida Department of Children and Families, several years into the contract, made a statewide determined that provider agencies, such as Devereux and Children's Home Society, should no longer have representation on the these Boards. Of the founding agencies, only Brevard County remains and continues to provide appointments.
According to their Bylaws, the County appoints three (3) Directors to their Board. There is currently one vacancy among the Commission appointments. BFP and their Board of Directors respectfully requests that Eric Austin be appointed by the County to serve on the BFP board for a three year term (see attached email).
