Requested Action:

Recommendation

It is requested that the Board authorize the County Manager and County Attorney to commence negotiations with the City of Melbourne regarding properties including, but not limited to, Parcel #27-36-24-00-509 and Parcel # 27-36-24-00-801, and report back to the Board.

End

Summary Explanation and Background:

Parcel #27-36-24-00-509 (owned by the City of Melbourne) and Parcel # 27-36-24-00-801 (owned by Brevard County) are located near the southwest corner of Sarno Road and Wickham Road.

The District 3 Office would like the County Manager and County Attorney to begin communications with the City of Melbourne to look into a potential switch of ownership of the parcels between the City and the County. Should there be a value differential, it can be proposed the City of Melbourne take ownership of certain road segments and their recurring maintenance costs.  An alternative option could be a long-term lease with the City of Melbourne for the County-owned parcel.

The requested action will authorize the County Manager and County Attorney to explore all possibilities, including but not limited to, a land swap, long-term leases, or any other potential options regarding the aforementioned parcels, and commence negotiations with the City of Melbourne.

Potential options will come back to the Board for consideration.
