Summary Explanation and Background:
The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), per Florida Statute 394.9082, contracts for behavioral health services through regional systems of care called Managing Entities (MEs). These entities do not provide direct services; rather, they allow the DCF's funding to be tailored to specific needs in the various regions of the State. Since June 29, 2012, Central Florida Cares Health System, Inc. (CFCHS) has been the ME for the East Central Florida Region and has managed substance use and mental health services (also known as behavioral health services) for Brevard, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. Nineteen members make up the Board of Directors for CFCHS, including six members from Brevard County, with Ian Golden, Housing and Human Services Department Director, serving as the Vice President.
CFCHS funds a services network comprised of many organizations offering various levels of treatment options, of which ten provide services in Brevard County. These options include prevention, interventions, crisis support, residential treatment and outpatient services for adults, children, as well as families, to include opioid and medication assisted treatment.
